Wesley I Howard

Wesley I Howard (February 1, 1892-November 1962) was a violinist who attended the New England Conservatory of Music. He was both the first Black student to complete violin studies, and also the first person ever to graduate within 3 years. He accepted a teaching position at Howard University in 1921. In 1927 he organized and trained 50 musicians of color into the Washington Civic Orchestra.
