Emmett Rice was a native of Richmond, born in 1924. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1942, and joined World War Two in the United States Navy. In his capacity of Navy First Class Fireman, he lost a leg and was discharged in 1944. In 1946, he was one of the first disabled veterans to receive an adapted car from the US government. That same year, he was working with the US Postal Service- a tenure lasting 28 years. Rice was an active member of Bethel AME Church, Elks Onyx Lodge, and American Legion Post 359. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and bowling. He passed in 1975, having been a true model of what can be accomplished and enjoyed in always.
