Education: B.S. in Chemistry in 1956 from Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. Master’s degree in education in 1971 from Ball State
Career as an Educator: Mrs. Price taught science at Hibbard Jr High School, Denis Jr. High School, and Richmond Sr. High School. She was passionate about making science education fun and accessible for all students. Her lessons labs were fun and relevant, talking about issues of the day. She described herself as being “strict but fair” She gave students the autonomy to choose what they wanted to do for projects. If students needed additional resources, she was happy to arrange a class trip to Morrison Reeves Library or the Earlham College Library. She was the faculty advisor for many extracurricular activities, including the Travel Club, Science Club, and the Speech and Debate Team.
Community Impact: Mrs. Price was beloved by the people of her community. After her retirement, she worked with young people to get into higher education. She helped many students gain scholarships. She was also a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church on South 6th Street.
Accomplishments: Chancellor’s Medallion for Distinguished Service from IU East. Given in honor of her program that encouraged young women to be involved in science.
