Al Glover had a full and varied life of work and service. He was a proud veteran. He spent time in Kansas City as a radio personality, was Director of Systems and Organizations for Westinghouse, Marketing Manager for Standard Oil, recruited as Manager of Fuels to manage the building of the Petro Truck Stop in Richmond, and worked at Reid Hospital in the Engineering Department. He time in Richmond was spent in service to the community as the first minority to be elected by city-wide vote to the City Common Council.
As a councilman, Glover was instrumental in getting bus stop signs installed throughout the city. Al also contributed to numerous community projects which included Past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Jazz Festival Committee, and the 3rd Grade Academy. He served as an Instructor of the Positive Alternative Program, and as vice president of the Noon Kiwanis Club, he produced the “Upper Room” (a radio hour of inspiration) for 9 years. His achievements in both politics and community service were recognized with the award of the Sagamore of the Wabash, Indiana’s highest honor.
