Career as a Business Owner: In 1952, Luther opened his own business and bought a building for $1,200. At the corner of North 13th and H Streets, he operated his new restaurant, Hunter’s Hamburger Place. There, Black youth enjoyed dancing and enjoying tasty food. Luther sold hamburgers for fifteen cents each and milkshakes for a quarter each. He operated the shop until 1957 when he sold the building.
