Mamie Wright used her personal experiences in her role in the NAACP. She joined in the late ‘60’s and worked her way up from managing the annual membership drive and addressing discrimination issues, to being the first woman local chapter president – and then the first woman president of the Indiana Chapter. She was instrumental in getting the NAACP Annual Conference to Richmond. Her work and dedication to service garnered her the prestigious “Kentucky Colonel” commission for devotion to community, state and nation.
